Denny Pettway
I am a client-centered therapist. I believe it is important the client determines how far therapy should be taken. I help the client find his or her own inner strength and resources. I believe it is important to meet clients where they are in order to help them determine where they want to go. I make no value judgments and encourage my clients to explore their own value systems to determine what course of action is right for them.
I provide counseling for a broad spectrum of adolescent and adult issues. I have worked with people of all ages in outpatient, and school settings, as well as provide guidance and advocacy for families with children struggling through the IEP or 504 processes in the school systems. I have spent the last 11 years as a Special Education Teacher and Behavior Specialist in the school system and can guide you through the process of getting evaluations along with plan implementations.
I also work with the life stage (particularly adolescent and young adult) and men\'s issues. Whether you are experiencing changes in mood, struggling with a particular situation, or having difficulties adjusting to a new life phase, therapy can often give you the skills to overcome these challenges.
It is my goal to provide an empathetic and nonjudgmental environment that is supportive of your desire to make changes in your life. I would also like to invite you to reach out to me if you need help navigating the IEP504 process for your student.
As a behavior specialist within the school system, I specialize in working with kids of all ages. I am also a facilitator of Parenting the Love and Logic Way curriculum. I have extensive experience in working with parents and children in order to help create positive relationships within the family.
As a former special education teacher, I have worked as a family advocate throughout the IEP process, helping parents understand their rights and their child\'s rights in receiving a free and appropriate education as mandated by federal law.
